Records on your phone

The app stores hunt sites, coordinates, waypoints, scout observations, hunt and harvest details, notes, timestamps, and photos you choose to save. These records support your field log and history. Core logging does not require an account.

Location and camera permissions support the features you choose to use. You can manage permissions in your phone’s settings. Site coordinates can be entered manually, and a harvest can be saved without a photo or available GPS.

Optional account & cloud backup

Where cloud services are enabled, MarshWise uses Supabase for email sign-in, cloud records, and photo storage. Linking your phone’s records to your account enables uploads of supported existing and future records and photos, including their saved location information.

Uploads run while the app is open and you are signed in, using Wi-Fi or mobile data. The current pause control lasts until you resume or reopen the app. Signing out leaves local records and their account link on the phone. Waypoints are currently local only and are excluded from backup and restore.

Maps & navigation

The map requests imagery from OpenStreetMap. These requests reveal the viewed map area and connection information, such as an IP address, to the map service. Opening directions passes the selected coordinates to your chosen navigation service.

Optional AI photo identification

When you request AI identification, the app sends a resized photo through its identification service to the configured provider, OpenAI or Google. If available, the request includes the recorded UTC date and coordinates rounded to one decimal place. The separate coordinate fields do not include exact GPS; the photo itself may contain identifying details.

This feature requires internet, sign-in, and an enabled service. You can use the offline bird guide or enter species manually instead. Review any suggested identification before saving.

Keeping & deleting records

Saved local records remain until removed or the app’s data is cleared. Clearing app data or uninstalling the app or its development host can remove local records and photos.

Deleting a record in the app removes it from your lists. For supported backed-up records, the deletion syncs when connected. Photos remain in storage in the current version. Signing out does not delete an account or its cloud data.

This website & support messages

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Hosting involves processing connection and request information to serve and protect the site. The website code does not add analytics scripts, advertising trackers, or forms.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include so we can respond. Avoid sending exact hunting locations unless they are needed for your request.
